The Job:
We are looking for a DevOps engineer, who has a great passion & understanding of cloud-native technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and managing Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure capable of handling millions of users. To be successful, one must effectively communicate with our engineering teams to orchestrate the creation of solutions that can scale.
You will be a part of the Infrastructure team within the Platform Team of Right-Hand, who are responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure engineering platforms used by Right-hand’s products.
Our stack is AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Micro Services, Web Services, Machine Learning and Queueing Services, Ruby, Rails, React, Python, and Golang.
Responsibilities
- Drive and improve Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to build highly scalable, resilient infrastructure to support millions of customers.
- Improve the current cloud-native infrastructure in collaboration with the Head of Platform & Architecture to improve the performance and reliability of Right-Hand products.
- Introduce standard, automated, and repeatable processes to improve operational efficiencies, applications uptime, and reduce the total cost of ownership.
- Help identify, develop and coach top DevOps and SRE engineering talent.
- Define the technology strategy to deliver on our business objectives, in collaboration with the business stakeholders in the company.
- Maintains technology trends radar to support the technology strategy shaping.
- Drive and implement automation, observability to ensure a resilient, self-healing infrastructure.
- Implement Everything-as-Code including infrastructure testing, security, and compliance to increase the quality and to deploy faster into production.
- Curate reliable Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to allow our developers to build and deploy features efficiently.
- Transform the existing infrastructure into a self-service platform for developers and data engineers to reduce manual interactions between teams.
- Identify and proactively address challenges on the infrastructure platform and continuously apply DevOps best practices.
- Help increase system performance with a focus on high availability and scalability.
- Propose, scope, design, and implement various infrastructure architectures.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building scalable cloud-native infrastructure to support millions of customers.
- Built follow-the-sun model to operationalise 24X7 on-call.
- Experience working with the following software architectures, techniques, and technologies - Microservice architecture, Docker containerisation, and clustering (Kubernetes/ECS), Jenkins, TravisCI, CircleCI, Terraform, Nginx, Redis, Ruby, Rails, Ansible, Puppet, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
- Grow and mentor engineering teams.
- An ability to drive to goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Excellent judgement, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated individual that possesses excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Experience with Docker containerisation and clustering such as AWS ECS.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with CI/CD best practices and tools such as CircleCI, Github Actions, or Jenkins.
- Experience maintaining and deploying automated and reliable cloud infrastructure preferably on AWS.
- A drive towards automating repetitive tasks.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Go, Python, Ruby, Node, etc.
- Strong and clear communication and documentation skills.
- A constant will to learn and grow, and to share knowledge with others.
- Excellent judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
