The Role

The Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for maintaining conceptual and logical data architecture for all data. This person will be responsible for definition, conception and construction of big data platforms and solutions. In this role, the tech lead manages all data-related aspects of projects (data lake, data warehouse, operational data store, and reporting). This person also supports the definition of data architecture roadmap and helps in selection and implementation of data technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of data engineering solutions on the Azure platform.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design scalable and efficient data architectures using Azure services.
• Oversee architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance our data capabilities and drive innovation.
• Define and enforce best practices for data modeling, ETL processes, data quality, and performance optimization.
• Continually review the data platform to ensure that it is fit for purpose and meeting the needs of the business

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, and Cloud Platform operations, with a focus on the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
• Strong understanding of Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Cosmos DB.
• Proficiency in designing and optimizing data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integrations.
• Hands-on experience with automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and DevOps principles.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security best practices, and compliance standards in a cloud environment.
• Azure certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent are highly desirable
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to guide and inspire technical teams.
