The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor Engineer will provide mechanical maintenance engineering expertise and leadership to the Basrah Desalination Plant maintenance team to ensure the continuous availability of all plant equipment at all times and in accordance with the Integrated Management System, O&M manuals and terms of O&M contract. In addition all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is performed based on the annual budget and client specifications.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the mechanical supervisor will take a lead role in organizing and supervising the work of the mechanical maintenance engineers & technicians. He shall closely coordinate work with the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor Engineers.
Key responsibilities
Maintain, monitor and upgrade all mechanical equipment / installations
Coordinate/organize the annual, monthly, weekly and daily preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance program, based on the CMMS and ad hoc occurrences, with the electrical supervisor
Analyze and evaluate the preventive maintenance schedules with the plant manager
Participates in the development and implementation of CMMS goals, objectives, policies and priorities
Participate in the spares parts monitoring
Directs studies which are investigating methods of improving mechanical preventive maintenance and reducing failures and cost
Maintain relevant records, files and technical documentation up to date
Prepare maintenance and other reports as requested
Order supplies and equipment for the department with approval of the Plant Manager
Verify (sub)contractor proposals to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements
Evaluate the quality of and supervise contractors/subcontractors when on site
Provide and manage tools required to carry out all maintenance activities
Manage the Mechanical Team, supervise technicians and assist in the field when required
Evaluate employee performance, review and approve schedule
Propose staff training and continuous improvement of his team
Be part of the Permit to Work System as Acceptor
Ensure the adherence to Company policies and procedures at all times
Ensure and supervise good housekeeping in accordance with best practice principles at all times
Work closely with and support the Maintenance and Operation Managers
Perform any reasonable task or instruction by Management
Perform and participate in compulsory on-call/standby duty and overtime work
Qualifications
· Minimum a recognized Bachelor Degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Experience
· 5 years of practical experience as mechanical engineer in the desalination field
Skills
The candidate must be capable of:
· Testing, dismantling, repairing pumps / valves and other mechanical equipment
· Performing and supervising motor and pump alignments
· Understanding and determining causes of malfunctions
· Understanding and following oral and written instructions accurately
· Reading and understanding PIDs and technical diagrams
· Coordinating, organizing and supervising team activities
· Writing procedures, tasks and reports
· Working autonomously and showing initiative

The candidate should have good knowledge of:
· Spoken and written English
· Methods, best practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the mechanical environment
· Operation of pumps/ motors / valves / any other equipment
· Vibration and temperature testing
· Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
· General material corrosion and fatigue
· RO plants and membranes works (installation, replacement, modification, etc)
· High pressure operational environment
