Role / Responsibilities

As an intern on our team, you may be responsible for:

• Assisting with the development, testing, and deployment of new product features
• Investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving software bugs and technical issues
• Writing, reviewing, and maintaining production-quality code under the guidance of senior developers, mostly within the PERN stack
• Supporting the development of backend services, APIs, and data processing systems
• Working with large datasets and helping maintain data pipelines that power reporting and analytics products
• Participating in quality assurance, testing, and release processes to ensure a reliable user experience
• Learning and applying software development best practices, including version control, documentation, testing, and code reviews
• Writing clear technical specifications, tickets, and documentation to support collaborative development
• Using modern AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and problem solving
• Collaborating with developers, product leaders, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-facing solutions

This role offers exposure to software engineering, data engineering, cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, product development, and startup operations - providing a 360º view of how modern technology companies build and scale software.

What to Expect

Working with a startup is a unique experience: there are no heavy layers of management, rigid structures or “that’s just the way it’s always been done”. We are often venturing into new areas, unfamiliar industries and developing new skillsets.

1. Impactful Work: All of our team members take on important projects, interns included. You'll have a chance to have a real impact for our company and partners.

That also means: it's very important that work is done on time and to a high standard.

1. Flexibility: There are no overbearing managers or micromanagement. You will have guidance and support but no micromanagement.

That also means: You will be responsible for your own outcomes. You will need to actively manage your time, and actively solicit feedback on your work to ensure that what you deliver is on schedule and provides value.

1. Full Participation: Good ideas come from anyone, including you. We care about the quality of the idea, work and always improving outcomes for us and our partners.

That also means: you'll be expected to actively contribute ideas and participate in feedback for other's work outside of your chosen project.

As part of your onboarding, you'll work with a senior member of the team to build a 90-day plan. This will help you to succeed in your initial contract period!

Requirements

For a candidate to succeed in this role, you will need the following:

• Strong attention to detail, and a deep care for the quality of work you produce.
• A keen interest in software development, building great products and technical decision-making, and an eagerness to learn and grow in these fields.
• An interest in learning more about technical applications within the marketing and advertising fields.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (we work entirely in English).
• (Very) proactive, results-oriented, and motivated to contribute to the success of marketing initiatives.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy building things outside of the classroom. We care that you are curious, motivated, and actively developing your skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Please highlight any experience you have in the following areas:

• Any familiarity with software development or related projects.
• This may include: building applications, APIs, automation tools, data engineering and pipelines, cloud environments, artificial intelligence functions or other related work.
• Especially: development with the PERN stack or similar, working in cloud environments, and/or working with large datasets.
• This can include personal software projects, open-source contributions and volunteer experience, freelance work, prior work experience, projects or otherwise.

When reviewing applications, we place significant value on evidence that you have built something. This could be a GitHub repository, personal project, hackathon submission, technical blog, contribution to an open-source project, or another example of taking an idea from concept to reality.

Schedule

Our internships are typically 3-6 months, with the option to extend for successful candidates.

This is a full-time internship (40 hours per week, M-F), offering flexible working hours and a mostly remote setup. Occasional travel to Colombo will be required.

While working hours are flexible, there is an all-hands team meeting every morning (M-F) in the morning (Some time between 8:30 - 10:00 AM IST). Other meetings are generally scheduled (M-F) between 6 and 10 pm IST to accommodate international team coordination.
