Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated MS Database Administrator (DBA) with experience in general application support. This dual-role position involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing Microsoft SQL databases while providing hands-on support for various business applications. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teams across the organization.
Key skills / attributes required
Database Administration:
- Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and resource management.
- Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Security: Maintain database security policies and implement role-based access control (RBAC) to safeguard sensitive data.
- Data Integrity: Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and integrity across environments.
- Upgrades and Patching: Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations as required.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database issues, such as deadlocks, latency, and other anomalies.
General Application Support:
- Application Maintenance: Provide day-to-day operational support for critical business applications, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Troubleshooting: Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues related to software applications and integrations.
- User Support: Serve as a point of contact for application users, responding to queries and resolving issues promptly.
- Deployment and Updates: Coordinate application installations, upgrades, patches, and customizations.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, workflows, and support processes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to ensure seamless application performance and integration.
- Monitoring: Implement and maintain monitoring tools to proactively detect and address application and database performance issues.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize all escalated technical incidents from Level 2 Customer Technical Support engineers.
- MS SQL administration of the Olinqua HA Cloud Platform.
- Familiarize yourself with our incident management process and assist in troubleshooting and resolving major incidents as needed, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Participate in an after-hours on-call roster to provide support outside regular business hours.
- Conduct case assessments for issues escalated by Level 2 Customer Technical Support engineers.
- Report bugs to the Product team with detailed descriptions of the issues.
- Escalate incidents and service requests that cannot be resolved within SLA to the Head of Support.
- Close all resolved incidents, requests, and support calls.
- Communicate with customers by providing incident updates, contributing to incident reports,
- Oversee Windows OS updates in accordance with our scheduled maintenance plan.
- Contribute to and manage the knowledge base of common issues and their resolutions.
- Identify opportunities for improving support processes and contribute to their enhancement.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Stay informed and up-to-date on Olinqua’s support offerings.
Organisational:
- Maintenance and ongoing refinement of process documents and tool configuration.
- Adhere to operational procedures such as time keeping, task allocation, status reporting
- Actively contribute to internal programs
Professional Development:
- Be knowledgeable and ‘up to date’ with all Olinqua releases
- Share acquired skills and knowledge with the team – upskilling level 1 and level 2
- Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies.
Work Hours
- Work will be at Australian Eastern Standard time zones for one week in every two-week period. The second week will be Sri Lankan time zones.
- Available to be on call for afterhours weekdays is a requirement
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years of experience as an MS Database Administrator.
- Experience in providing application support across diverse business systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (versions Insert Versions, e.g., 2016, 2019).
- Expertise in T-SQL, database design, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery tools (e.g., Redgate, SQL Server Management Studio).
- Knowledge of application support tools and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira).
- Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for task automation.
- Familiarity with Windows Server environments and Active Directory integration.
- Understanding of application integration, APIs, and middleware solutions.
