We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to oversee all financial aspects of our vegetable export business. This senior role will be responsible for managing the complete accounting cycle, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, optimizing tax strategies across multiple jurisdictions, and providing strategic financial guidance to support our business growth in Middle Eastern markets.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the entire accounting department and establish effective accounting policies, systems, and internal controls
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections specific to export operations
- Implement effective cost accounting systems to track and analyze production, packaging, and shipping costs
- Present clear financial analyses to management to support strategic decision-making
- Manage balance sheets, general ledger, and profit/loss statements with attention to international operations
International Trade & Export Finance
- Develop expertise in export financing mechanisms including letters of credit, documentary collections, and trade finance
- Manage currency exchange risks and implement hedging strategies to protect profit margins
- Coordinate with banks for international payments and optimize cash flow across multiple currencies
- Oversee documentation for international shipments including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading
- Ensure proper accounting for export subsidies, incentives, and rebates where applicable
- Monitor and analyze the financial impact of international trade agreements and tariff changes
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards and regulations
- Oversee preparation and filing of tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage VAT/GST reporting and recovery for international transactions
- Stay informed about Middle Eastern import regulations and tax implications
- Implement risk management strategies for international business operations
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants as needed
- Ensure proper documentation for customs clearance and export/import regulations
Team Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Establish clear roles and responsibilities within the finance department
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for financial processes and systems
- Collaborate with other departments including sales, logistics, and operations
- Provide financial training and guidance to non-finance team members as needed
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- Additional certifications in international trade finance or export management highly valued
Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a senior role
- Prior experience in export businesses, preferably in fresh produce or agricultural sectors
- Demonstrated experience with international trade finance and multi-currency operations
- Knowledge of Middle Eastern import regulations and business practices preferred
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of export documentation, logistics, and trade compliance
- Proficiency in foreign exchange management and international banking operations
- Knowledge of international tax regulations and transfer pricing
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly
- Knowledge of Arabic language and Middle Eastern business culture is an advantage
