Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sous Chef to support the kitchen operations at MA Café Borella. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Head Chef to deliver consistently high-quality dishes, ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations, and help train and guide junior kitchen staff. This role is ideal for a motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic café environment and is eager to grow with our brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in planning, preparing, and executing the café menu.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, delegating tasks to ensure smooth service.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Oversee kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and compliance with health & safety standards.
  • Manage stock rotation, ingredient usage, and inventory control.
  • Assist in menu development, including seasonal specials and new concepts.
  • Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
  • Support the training and development of junior chefs, commis, and kitchen helpers.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience as a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef in a café, restaurant, or hotel kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Leadership and team management skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Creativity and passion for innovative, café-style food.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Work Conditions

  • Location: MA Café, Borella.
  • Full-time role with flexible scheduling.
  • Weekend and holiday availability required.
  • Reports directly to Head Chef / Café Manager.
