Fordona is a technology startup on a mission to redefine driving education in Sweden. We’re building a digital platform that connects students with certified driving schools and leverages AI-driven systems to personalize learning, deliver interactive theory training, and create a smoother, smarter path to becoming a confident driver.

We’re a small, ambitious team blending product design, engineering, and applied AI. At Fordona, engineers don’t just implement features, they help define the technical direction and shape how AI is embedded into the core of the product.

The Role

We’re looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to take ownership of AI-driven learning systems across our platform. You’ll work hands-on with data, models, and backend systems while helping guide architectural and technical decisions as we scale.

This role is part-time friendly (minimum 20 hours per week) and includes the opportunity to receive company equity, reflecting the impact and responsibility of the position.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and iterate on ML models for: Theory training and knowledge assessment Personalized question and content recommendation Student performance analytics and learning insights
• Work with real-world, production datasets: data cleaning, feature engineering, model evaluation, and optimization.
• Architect and implement backend services and APIs that integrate ML models into the core product.
• Help define best practices for model lifecycle management, experimentation, and deployment.
• Stay current with advancements in deep learning, NLP, recommender systems, and applied AI.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering to take AI features from concept to production.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship as the AI function grows.

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, or data-driven backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, NumPy, and pandas.
• Solid understanding of: Machine learning fundamentals Model training, evaluation, and tuning Data preprocessing and feature engineering
• Experience building ML-powered systems that integrate into real products.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Excellent communication skills and a product-oriented mindset.

Bonus Points For

• Hands-on experience with NLP, LLMs, or recommendation systems.
• Familiarity with LangChain, Hugging Face, or modern AI tooling.
• Experience with MLOps, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
• Prior startup experience or having built systems from zero to production.
