🔎 AVAILABLE POSITION - MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing high-quality laboratory testing, ensuring accurate specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting. The role supports diagnostic services by maintaining laboratory equipment, adhering to quality and safety standards, and ensuring timely and reliable test results.

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Science, or a related field.

Current practising licence/registration with the Medical Board of Papua New Guinea.

Training in laboratory safety, infection control, or quality assurance is an added advantage.

Additional certification in phlebotomy or specimen handling is desirable.

Skills

Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, specimen collection, preparation, and analytical processes.

Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot common laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, analysers, microscopes).

High accuracy and attention to detail when handling specimens, performing tests, and documenting results.

Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures and compliance with safety standards.

Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet turnaround times.

Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clinicians, nurses, and patients.

Ability to follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain confidentiality.

Basic computer literacy for entering results, using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and preparing reports.

Experience

Minimum 1–2 years working in a medical laboratory, hospital, or diagnostic testing environment (preferred).

Experience in routine laboratory testing such as haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis is an advantage.

Practical experience in specimen collection, labelling, preparation, and safe handling.

Experience working within a quality‑assured laboratory environment, including participation in quality control activities.

New graduates with strong practical training or internship experience may also be considered.
