The Job
The Head of Department (HOD) – Pearson Higher National Diploma in Computing cum Lecturer in IT will be responsible for leading and managing the academic and administrative functions of the Higher National Diploma in Computing department while also delivering high-quality teaching in Information Technology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, managing, and coordinating all academic and administrative activities within the Higher National Diploma in Computing department.
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing curriculum and course materials to ensure alignment with international standards and current industry trends.
- Supervising and mentoring academic staff while providing guidance on teaching methodologies, research, and professional development.
- Delivering lectures and practical IT sessions to students to ensure high-quality learning experiences.
- Overseeing student admissions, academic progress, assessments, and academic advising within the department.
- Promoting a collaborative and innovative academic environment among faculty and students.
- Ensuring compliance with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance procedures.
- Representing the department in meetings and external engagements, and liaising with industry partners to facilitate internships and student placements.
- Planning, organizing, and participating in departmental events such as workshops, seminars, and academic activities.
- Being available to work on weekends when required for lectures, meetings, or special departmental activities.
The Person
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes:
- Age between 25 and 45 years.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (a Master’s degree, preferably MSc, will be an added advantage).
- Proven teaching experience in higher education, preferably in IT or computing disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in an academic environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively, motivate academic staff, and encourage student engagement.
- Willingness and availability to work during weekends when required.
- A good understanding of the Pearson Higher National Diploma curriculum and quality assurance procedures (preferred).
- Proficiency in educational technologies and digital learning platforms.
