We are seeking a skilled and motivated IT Officer to join our growing team. This role be based in Lae and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, innovative environment while advancing your IT career.
The IT Officer will be responsible for providing day‑to‑day technical support to the Hardware Haus operations. This role ensures the smooth functioning of IT systems, hardware, software, Point‑of‑Sale (POS) systems, and network infrastructure to support efficient business operations. The position requires a hands‑on, proactive individual with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve technical issues promptly to minimize business interruptions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily IT support to staff for desktops, laptops, printers, POS systems, email, and basic application issues.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults in a timely manner to reduce downtime.
- Install, configure, and upgrade computers, operating systems, and approved applications.
- Support and maintain local area networks (LAN), internet connectivity, and Wi-Fi systems across the store.
- Assist with basic server administration where required.
- Monitor system performance and escalate major issues to the central IT team.
- Create, update, and manage user accounts, passwords, and access rights in line with company policies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to IT security protocols.
- Implement and enforce IT security policies including antivirus updates, access control, and software compliance.
- Ensure systems are protected against malware, viruses, and unauthorized access.
- Conduct routine system health checks and ensure adherence to security standards.
- Ensure regular data backups are performed, verified, and stored securely.
- Maintain an up-to-date asset register for IT equipment at the Lae and outside branches.
- Support periodic hardware and software audits.
- Provide technical support for POS terminals, receipt printers, scanners, and cash register systems.
- Ensure POS uptime during business hours and troubleshoot issues quickly to avoid transaction delays.
- Liaise with Hardware Haus HQ and central IT teams for escalations and technical approvals.
- Coordinate with vendors, ISP providers, and service technicians as required.
- Prepare and submit incident reports and daily/weekly IT updates to management.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience in IT support, helpdesk operations, or retail IT systems is an advantage.
- Knowledge of POS systems, networking, and system troubleshooting.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to operational IT needs.
