Client Overview:
The company operates in the nickel mining industry, focusing on upstream activities to secure a sustainable ore supply chain that supports the global electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem and the stainless-steel sector. Its current operations are centered on a significant nickel mining concession in North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, which is still in the exploration and infrastructure development phase. Key priorities include land clearing, construction of dedicated hauling roads, and development of a strategic port to facilitate future logistics and shipping.
The operation follows international corporate standards while strictly adhering to Indonesian mining regulations, with a strong commitment to implementing Good Mining Practices (GMP) across all stages, from exploration to eventual commercial production. Supported by substantial financial and technological resources, the project provides a dynamic, result-oriented environment with long-term career opportunities as it transitions toward full-scale mining operations.
Job Role:
As the project has not yet reached the production phase, it offers a unique opportunity for professionals to build an operational foundation from the ground up. The Compliance Manager holds a high-impact responsibility for the company's risk management and external affairs coordination. This role is vital for ensuring that all mining activities remain in full compliance with Indonesian laws and the requirements of competent government authorities. You will lead the effort to integrate regulatory compliance into daily operations, manage the full lifecycle of mining licenses, and act as a key liaison with external professional institutions and government bodies such as ESDM and KLHK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk & External Affairs Coordination: Take overall responsibility for risk management, handling daily mining risk matters, and coordinating with government authorities and external professional institutions.
- System Development & Optimization: Establish and continuously improve the company's risk management and external affairs systems, including the refinement of relevant SOP processes.
- Licensing & Permit Management: Oversee the application, renewal, amendment, and reporting of all company licenses and permits, ensuring strict compliance with Indonesian regulations.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor changes in laws related to mining, environment, trade, shipping, and industry; prepare compliance summaries and communicate updates to relevant departments.
- Audit & Internal Compliance: Conduct internal compliance inspections or audits to identify potential legal and operational risks, providing strategic recommendations for improvement.
- Legal Collaboration: Work closely with the Legal Division to integrate regulatory requirements into project implementation and assist in preparing legal opinions.
- Capacity Building: Establish internal compliance management mechanisms, reporting templates, and awareness programs to enhance the overall compliance culture.
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law with a minimum of 8 years of experience in regulatory compliance, corporate licensing, or industrial legal practice, including at least 3 years in mining compliance or within the mining industry.
- Strong understanding of the Indonesian mining compliance system and relevant regulations in administration, environment, trade, and shipping, with familiarity in government systems and institutions such as Kementerian ESDM, KLHK, OSS, and ATR/BPN.
- Proven ability to draft, review, and manage complex legal and compliance documentation in a structured and accurate manner.
- Strong analytical skills to identify legal risks, combined with excellent coordination abilities and a high level of responsibility in handling tight deadlines.
- Professional fluency in both Mandarin and English, written and spoken.
