Job Role:

The Field Staff (Fishery Operations) position is hands-on and physically demanding, based entirely on the sea-pen farms of Hiburi Island. Responsibilities include managing the frontline of fish production, ensuring the health and growth of thousands of premium fish, and working closely with Japanese experts using Japanese language skills to follow technical instructions and maintain safety protocols on the water. This role provides a rare opportunity to learn the "master-apprentice" secrets of high-end aquaculture in a traditional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily navigation to sea-pens to conduct feeding, net cleaning, and health inspections of yellowtail and sea bream
- Monitor feed consumption and adjust quantities based on water temperature, tides, and fish behavior to ensure optimal growth
- Handle heavy fishery equipment, including mooring ropes, cages, and high-pressure net cleaners
- Assist in the high-speed, professional harvesting of fish during peak seasons, ensuring humane slaughter standards are met for maximum freshness
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the island-based facilities and equipment under minimum supervision
- Participate in cooperative activities of the local fishing community, representing the operation with discipline and respect
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; vocational background in Fisheries or Marine Science is a plus
- Previous experience in manual labor, outdoor work, or fisheries; comfortable working on boats and in all weather conditions
- Conversational Japanese (JLPT N3/N2) to communicate with team and local islanders
- Meticulous, disciplined, and highly organized with strong communication and teamwork skills
- Able to work under minimal supervision and maintain a "Genba" (on-site) mindset
- Enjoys nature and a simple lifestyle; comfortable living on a remote island with limited city amenities
- High physical stamina, excellent balance on moving vessels, and ability to lift heavy loads repeatedly
