Contract
Konawe Regency, South East Sulawesi, IndonesiaThis role requires the candidate to work in Konawe, Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia.
Client Overview:
Our client is a leading Indonesian mining contractor and infrastructure development company with extensive experience supporting coal and mineral mining projects across the country. The company has been operating for several decades and provides end-to-end services, including mine planning, mining operations, integrated logistics (hauling, barging, and transshipment), construction and infrastructure development, full mining operations, production management, and mine rehabilitation.
They are recognized for their ability to develop large-scale mining operations, particularly greenfield projects, where they play a crucial role in building critical early-stage infrastructure such as roads, bridges, jetties, camp facilities, and mine support systems. Their operations prioritize safety, operational excellence, and long-term partnerships with clients.
Job Role:
The Mining Project Manager is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the end-to-end management of mining projects, with a specific focus on Greenfield developments. You will oversee the transition from initial infrastructure (road, jetty, and pit development) to active production, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety standards.
Unlike a traditional operations-only role, this position requires a strong project management mindset. You will be responsible for fleet matching, contractor coordination, and optimizing site productivity from the ground up. Success in this role requires a "player-coach" who can lead in the trenches while maintaining a strategic view of project milestones and financial efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greenfield Project Leadership: Lead the planning and execution of new mining projects, including infrastructure development (hauling roads, jetties), pit opening, and site facilities construction.
- Operational Excellence: Manage end-to-end mining operations including pit planning, production scheduling, and fleet management to achieve monthly and annual targets.
- Fleet & Cost Optimization: Design and optimize fleet planning (matching and ratio calculations) and monitor site budgeting to ensure maximum cost-efficiency.
- Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary lead for coordinating with contractors (MDO), engineering teams, pit services, and local authorities to ensure project continuity.
- Safety & Governance: Enforce the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and ensure all site activities comply with mining regulations and corporate ethics.
- Strategic Reporting: Provide accurate and timely reporting on production progress, project milestones, and financial performance to senior leadership.
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field; POM/POP/POU certification preferred.
- 8–10 years in mining operations, including 3–5 years managerial experience in mining contractors with cost-focused P&L.
- Proven experience in greenfield projects from land clearing to production/shipping, preferably in nickel or other mineral mining.
- Strong skills in mine planning, pit sequencing, production optimization, fleet and manpower management, budgeting, and cost control.
- Proactive, hands-on leader with excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management.
- Resilient, disciplined, responsible, and committed to operational excellence.
- Adequate English for technical and daily coordination.
