Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer – RPG / Lead Software Engineer with solid experience in Card Management Systems and Microservices architecture. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing legacy RPG-based systems, while contributing to the development of scalable microservices that support card operations and payment systems. This hybrid role bridges traditional core systems with modern technologies, ensuring operational continuity and future-ready architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using IBM i (AS/400) RPG in a card-centric environment.
  • Work on integration and enhancement of Card Management Systems (CMS), including transaction processing, card issuance, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and support microservices-based APIs and services for card operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, DevOps, and Infrastructure for feature delivery and incident resolution.
  • Analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure platform stability and security.
  • Participate in modernization initiatives, including migration of selected functions from RPG to Java or microservices.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and user manuals.
  • Follow secure coding practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards such as PCI-DSS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in software development including hands-on expertise in RPG IV / ILE RPG on IBM i (AS/400) platform.
  • Experience with Card Management Systems (e.g., VisionPLUS, CMS by FSS, Base24, or other proprietary platforms).
  • Proficiency in developing and integrating microservices (Java/Spring Boot preferred).
  • Good understanding of ISO 8583 message formats and card transaction workflows.
  • Experience working with relational databases (DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and system integration protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a high-availability environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the banking, fintech, or payments industry.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), version control (Git), and ticketing tools (JIRA, ServiceNow).
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and compliance standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR).
  • Ability to mentor junior developers and participate in code reviews.
