We are looking for a Tech Designer to join our design and estimation team. This is the role that sits between the client and the finished installation. When a homeowner, architect or consultant tells us what they want, you are the person who turns that conversation into a technical design that actually works — the drawings, the device schedules, the bill of quantities and the proposal that wins the project. You then stay with that design through to handover, so the installation team builds what you drew.

It is a hands-on technical role with real client exposure. You will spend part of your week on site with a measuring tape and a camera, part of it in AutoCAD and Excel, and part of it in front of clients explaining a system without drowning them in jargon. If you enjoy both halves of that — the drawing and the explaining — this will suit you.

You will report to the Cheif Solutions & Delivery Officer and work alongside our sales and projects team

What you'll be doing

Site surveys and requirement gathering

Visit client sites with the sales team. Measure, photograph and document existing conditions. Sit with homeowners, architects, interior designers and MEP consultants to understand what they actually want the system to do — not just which products they have heard of.

System design

Produce the technical drawing set: lighting control layouts, single-line diagrams, riser and schematic drawings, cable schedules and device schedules. Work in AutoCAD to a standard that an installer can build from without ringing you every hour.

Product and platform selection

Choose the automation platform and devices that suit the requirement, the building and the budget. Compare options across brands, and be able to justify why you picked what you picked.

BOQ and costing

Build accurate bills of quantities. Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, check lead times, and keep the cost model honest — including the cabling, containment and labour that get forgotten until site.

Proposals and client presentations

Write the technical narrative and assemble the client proposal. Support the sales team in presentations, showroom demonstrations and technical clarification meetings.

Handover and project support

Pass the approved design to the projects team, brief them properly, and stay available through installation and commissioning when questions come back from site.

Keeping the design library current

Maintain templates, product datasheets, price lists and reference drawings from past projects, so the next proposal starts further ahead than the last one did.

What we're looking for

Essential

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication, Mechatronics, Building Services or IT Engineering
• 2–3 years' experience in design, estimation, presales, MEP or ELV work
• Working AutoCAD skills, and confident Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Basic understanding of electrical wiring, low-voltage (ELV) systems and IP networking — switching, PoE, Wi-Fi and VLANs
• Clear written and spoken English, and the confidence to present to a client
• Organised and detail-minded, able to own a deadline without being chased

Advantageous

• Exposure to any automation platform — KNX, Crestron, Control4, TIS, Lutron, Loxone, LifeSmart, Zigbee or Matter
• Familiarity with CCTV, access control, intercom, multi-room audio or home theatre design
• Revit, SketchUp or Visio, and decent visual presentation skills
• Ability to read architectural and MEP drawings properly
